Green Tourism Summit Africa 2018

The Green Tourism Summit Africa is about leveraging opportunities presented by environment and social sustainability as prime innovation platforms for tourism and conservation. Hosted by Sustainable Travel & Tourism Agenda (STTA), this annual event is a mutli-sector engagement forum for exploring solutions and emerging new trends in sustainability, inspiring innovation and accessing solutions and building networks.

The 2018 and 4th Green Tourism Summit Africa, held in Nyeri at the White Rhino Hotel from the 19th to the 21st of June with educational tours to Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Baden-Powell Museum on the 18th and 20th of June respectively, saw attendance of over 60 delegates and 16 speakers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa and USA. What resulted from the summit 2018 was a Declaration of commitment by tourism and conservation stakeholders focusing on four areas for transforming tourism in Africa towards sustainability. The four focus area policies; consumption patterns; business approaches and host community inclusion. The Summit Award also saw 3 conservancies recognized and awarded for their high impact social empowerment programs. The 3 conservancies were Il Ngwesi Group Ranch in Laikipia, Siana Conservancy in the Mara and Olare Motoragi Conservancy also in the Mara.

The Green Tourism Summit Africa was proudly supported by Tourism Finance Corporation, Zuri Events, Uniglobe Let’s Go Travel, Maasai Mara Wildlife.
