Mr. Talam outlined Kenya’s tourism sustainability strategies while presenting the country’s ambitious targets of increasing international tourist arrivals to 3 million by 2024 and 5 million by 2027. These goals are not only about growth in numbers but are rooted in a vision of responsible and inclusive tourism development.

The Director General emphasized key government initiatives designed to support the sustainable development of the tourism sector. Among them is the ongoing development of sustainability standards tailored specifically for the industry, an important step towards aligning Kenya’s tourism offerings with global sustainability benchmarks.

He also highlighted the pivotal role of driver guides in shaping the tourist experience and influencing perceptions of Kenya. As such, he noted that robust and consistent training for driver guides is essential, recognizing them as critical stakeholders in delivering a more informed, responsible, and sustainable tourism product.
